Meet Anson Moxness, a water/wastewater engineer in our Anchorage, Alaska office. Anson is a leader in creative and technical excellence, often serving remote communities with limited or no water or sewage systems going to their homes. He recently worked on a septic tank project in Pelican, Alaska, a small fishing village only accessible by float plane or boat. “Engineering has always seemed like the clear path for me,” said Anson, who grew up taking things apart, and putting them back together. Anson’s devotion to his craft and community stems from his deep appreciation of Alaska where he has spent most of his life. He is a former member of the Alaska Junior National Ski Team and has coached future Olympians and national champions. Many weekends, Anson escapes to the mountains on the 3-seater plane he rebuilt with a fellow HDR employee. Discover your possibilities: https://lnkd.in/gHMtHg-p

Congratulations to Sound Transit on the opening of the 2 Line! The new light rail line will improve mobility through populous communities in Northwest Washington. Our construction management team has been a key partner on the project for years, from procurement through construction. It was a thrill to see the first passenger service begin this past weekend! https://lnkd.in/gcRb75gU Photos by Moris Moreno #2Line

This past weekend, a series of tornadoes moved across the Midwestern United States, destroying homes and properties and interrupting the lives of thousands of people. Omaha, home of our headquarters, was hit particularly hard by an estimated EF-3 twister. Thankfully, our HDR teammates in these areas are safe, and our offices were not damaged. Dangerous storms, however, continue to impact other states, leaving behind heartbreak and a long rebuilding process for our communities and for a few of our teammates and clients. Our hearts and thoughts go out to all those affected by these events. During these challenging times, we stand in solidarity with our communities and extend our support to the families impacted.

As we wrap up Earth Week, we're reminded that sustainable design is not enough. We must rethink our existing design strategies across all typologies — including laboratories — to promote regenerative design. Whether it’s the greenhouse gases released during construction and operation or the use of certain materials in creating sterile environments, laboratories often take a toll on both human well-being and ecological health. Here are four elements we can use to rethink lab design. https://lnkd.in/gr4DFjPd #EarthWeek #LabDesign

Meet Gina Robinson, a project designer and chair of our Sustainability Stewards Program (SSP). As the SSP chair, she provides leadership and important insights to continue improving HDR’s sustainable business operations. Gina has always been drawn to the outdoors. Some of her most formative experiences involved spending time in nature with her dad studying creatures and their place in the ecosystem. After college, she worked at an environmental nonprofit that rescued injured and orphaned birds of prey. She is passionate about environmental stewardship and volunteering in her community. Our Sustainable Stewards Program is a significant part of how we are working toward achieving HDR's sustainability commitment to strive toward an inclusive, sustainable future and elevating our communities, industry, and professions through human-inspired technical and creative solutions. Thank you for all you do, Gina! #EarthWeek
